In November each year participating solicitors volunteer their time and waive their fee for writing a basic Will. Instead, they invite clients to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid – the suggested amount is £95 for a single basic Will and £150 for a pair of basic ‘mirror’ Wills.
Having a professionally drafted Will is the best way to ensure your loved ones are provided for after your death. It also avoids the stress of coping with any legal complications for your family. While it is possible to write a Will yourself, using a solicitor will ensure your Will is valid and properly reflects your wishes.
For Will Aid purposes a basic Will is suitable for anyone who is simply leaving their assets to a few family members and friends or charities - or whose assets are below the inheritance tax threshold. More complex instructions outside the basic Will structure can still be undertaken during the campaign at an agreed separate charge. Wills do need to be updated if circumstances change - if you get married, buy a property, have children, are separated or become divorced – and you can also update your Will with Will Aid.
All it takes to gain peace of mind is a phone call to request an appointment under the Will Aid scheme. For more details visit: www.willaid.org.uk or contact a participating BSPC member.
